NOTAM 13711 : THEK-POWERED CHASSIS
MODEL: Nn3 BRILL Railbus

The previously reported performance issue is a result of removing, rotating 180º and reinstalling the Thek powered chassis' transfer gear case cover plate to affect a different mounting point to the SEARAILS pilot model Nn3 Brill rail bus.

While the shaft holes in this cover plate are symmetrical, one is a bearing hole and the other a slightly larger clearance hole.

The extra clearance on the idler gear shaft allowed enough sideways movement of the idler gear to impair the mesh of the gears causing the periodic gear binding.

it was noticed that the aft bearing point on the Nn3 BRILL RAILBUS, a much heavier prototype than the GE25T, developed an operating problem.

The chassis has run for several hours without a re-occurrence of the gear mesh issue. Select link below to view a movie of the chassis powering the BRILL Railbus pulling its trailer.
