Box Cabs were used world-wide in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas in both standard and norrow-guage railroads for short hauls, and industrial applications.
A boxcab locomotive encloses the machinery and crew areas in a single structure. Box Cab diesel-electricswitcherlocomotives, using ALCO chassis and running gear, General Electric generators, motors and controls, and Ingersoll Rand diesel engines. The principle of operation was the same as modern diesel locomotives, the diesel engine driving a main generator of 600 volts DC driving traction motors, one per axle.
SEARAILS models are the Steel Side 0-4-0 Z and Nn3 and N 60-Ton with a six-cylinder four-stroke in-line engine of 300 hp (220 kW) and an Nn3 B-B 100-Ton with two of the same engines. A wood side is also be offered.
