PRODUCTION DEVELOPMENT

CURRENT STATUS (6-5-15): Brass etchings for drive rods and wheels centers are completed by Indiana Micro Etch. (see photo group 2 below)

Status (5-5-15) All bodies and details are completed in design. 3D printing and lost wax castings are in current development. (see photo group 1 below)

These images are finished 3D printed wax bodies with surface details mounted on both 6.5mm and 9mm PowerMAX!. The tolerance of our 3D printing mechanism is 0.001mm. These bodies contain multiple components and surface details. As is SEARAILS current practise, they will be cast in brass as unit bodies with all details cast on. There is some discussion regarding the provision of some of the details (domes, stacks, light fixtures, and coupler housings) as alternate separate detail packages allowing the modeler to create an engine-specific to a body or rail line type. Your input is, as always, welcome.

This photo illustrates the finished white brass etching for the PowerMAX! steam engine's driving rods, linkage and wheel centers. Tom Knapp has developed a quartering mechanism to provide the 90 degree rotation setting of the wheel center pins, and the resulting smooth operation of all four driven wheels in the 0-4-0 class of PowerMAX! steam engines.

This PDF includes a draft instruction manual for the assembly instructions for the PowerMAX! steam engine's driving rods, linkage and wheel center.
